Michael: Top 25 Romanian Questions You Need to Know - Lesson 5: "Do you speak Romanian?" in Romanian. In each lesson of this 25 part series, you'll master a common question for Romanian learners, and then learn how to answer like a native speaker. You'll learn how these key phrases work by breaking them down into each component. Then, through repetition and new vocabulary, you'll expand your understanding of the question, its answers, and any variations.
In this lesson, you'll learn how to respond to the common question "Do you speak Romanian?" In Romanian this is...
Larisa: Tu vorbești limba română?
Michael: The first word of this question is...
Larisa: tu
Michael: meaning "you" in English.
Larisa: (Slow) tu
Michael: Listen again and repeat.
Larisa: tu
{Pause}
Michael: This pattern of first introducing a word at natural speed, providing the translation, breaking it down, and then giving it again at natural speed will be repeated throughout the series. Try to speak aloud as often as possible. The next word in the question is-

Larisa: Da, un pic.
Michael: "Yes, a bit." Again, slowly. Repeat the phrase.
Larisa: (Slow) Da, un pic.
{pause}
Michael: Let's break it down from the beginning. The first word is...
Larisa: Da
Michael: meaning "yes"
Larisa: (Slow) Da
Michael: Now repeat.
Larisa: Da
{Pause}
Michael: Then it’s...
Larisa: un pic

Larisa: un pic
{Pause}
Michael: Listen to the speaker say "Yes, a bit." and then repeat.
Larisa: Da, un pic.
{Pause}
Michael: To use a different phrase, let’s replace "a bit" with "fluently."
Larisa: fluent
Michael: "fluently"
Larisa: (slow) fluent (regular) fluent
Michael: Listen to the phrase again, this time with "fluently."
Larisa: Da, fluent.
Michael: It mostly stays the same, we just replace "a bit" with "fluently." Now say "Yes, fluently."
{pause}
Larisa: Da, fluent.
Michael: For more practice, replace "fluently" with "I speak Romanian."
Larisa: eu vorbesc limba română

Larisa: (Slow) Nu, nu vorbesc.
Michael: And one more time at normal speed.
Larisa: Nu, nu vorbesc.
Michael: Now it's time for a quiz. Imagine you're visiting Romania and someone asks you if you speak Romanian. You want to answer that you speak a bit. Respond to the question.
