In this lesson we’ll introduce you to a crucial phrase for travelers who are interested in learning more about the tourist attractions they’re visiting. Learning about the history and cultural significance of places you visit can be just as rewarding as seeing them. So now we’ll cover how to say “Do you have an English information guide?”
BODY
In Romanian, “Do you have an English information guide?” is:
Aveţi un ghid de informaţie în engleză?
Let’s break it down:
A-veţi un ghid de in-for-ma-ţi-e în en-gle-ză?
Once more:
Aveţi un ghid de informaţie în engleză?
The first word, aveţi, is a verb that is translated as “do you have”.
(slow) A-veţi.
Aveţi.
Next we have un ghid, which means “a guide”.
(slow) Un ghid.
Un ghid.
This is followed by de informaţie, which literally means “of information”.
(slow) De in-for-ma-ţi-e.
De informaţie.
Next we have în engleză, which means “in English”.
(slow) În en-gle-ză.
În engleză.
All together, we have:
(slow) A-veţi un ghid de in-for-ma-ţi-e în en-gle-ză?
Aveţi un ghid de informaţie în engleză?
This sentence refers to a pamphlet at the entrance of the museum.
To ask for a guide in a different language, we can just replace the word for “English” with the word for any other language. Let’s try with “French”.
“Do you have a French information guide?” is
Aveţi un ghid de informaţie în franceză?
(slow) A-veţi un ghid de in-for-ma-ţi-e în fran-ce-ză?
Aveţi un ghid de informaţie în franceză?
The only thing that changes is the language you’re looking for. In this case it’s franceză.
(slow) Fran-ce-ză.
Franceză.
Now let’s try with a German guide! In Romanian, “German” would be germană.
(slow) Ger-ma-nă.
Germană.
“Do you have a German information guide?” is
Aveţi un ghid de informaţie în germană?
(slow) A-veţi un ghid de in-for-ma-ţi-e în ger-ma-nă?

Piece of cake!
