In the previous lessons, we introduced you to some phrases you can use when you’re in Romania, and this is the last lesson of the series dedicated to learning from the people around you. In this lesson, we are going to cover “How do you read this?”
BODY
In Romanian “How do you read this word?” is
Cum se citeşte acest cuvânt?
Let’s break it down:
(slow)Cum se ci-teş-te a-cest cu-vânt?
Once more:
Cum se citeşte acest cuvânt?
The first word, cum, means “how.”
(slow) Cum.
Cum.
Next we have se citeşte, translated in English as “to read”.
(slow) Se ci-teş-te.
Se citeşte.
Then we have acest, the masculine form for “this”.
(slow) A-cest.
Acest.
At the end we have cuvânt which means “word”.
The entire sentence again is:

Let’s break it down:

Next we have înseamnă, a form of the verb that is translated as “to mean”.
