Now before we jump in, remember to stop by RomanianPod101.com.

In this lesson, we’ll cover basic greetings for the appropriate time of the day. As there are quite a few to cover, let's jump right in.
We’re going to start with the more formal ones first.
BODY
In Romanian, “Good morning” is
Bună dimineața.
Let’s break it down:
(slow) Bu - nă di-mi-nea-ța.
Once more:
Bună dimineața.
The first word, bună, means “good.”
(slow) Bu-nă.
Bună.
The second word means “the morning”. Here it is again:
(slow) Di-mi-nea-ța.
Dimineața.
Literally, it means “Good the morning”.
Let’s break it down again:
(slow) Bu-nă di-mi-nea-ța.
Bună dimineața.
In Romanian, "Good afternoon" is
Bună ziua.
Let’s break it down:
(slow) Bu-nă zi-ua.
Once more:
Bună ziua.
Bună, as we’ve already mentioned, means “good.”
The second word, ziua, means “the day.”
(slow) Zi-ua.
Ziua.
All together, that is
(slow) Bu-nă zi-ua.
Bună ziua.
In Romanian, “Good evening” is
Bună seara.
Let’s break it down:
(slow) Bu-nă sea-ra.
Once more:
Bună seara.
The second word, seara, means “the evening.”
(slow) Sea - ra.
Seara.
“Good night” is
Noapte bună.
This expression is a parting greeting, and just like in English, it is said before going to sleep.
Let’s break it down:
(slow) Noap-te bu-nă.
Once more:
Noapte bună.
The first word, noapte, means “night.”
(slow) Noap-te.
Noapte.
Once again, that’s:
(slow) Noap-te bu-nă.
Noapte bună.
All of these expressions can be used in informal and formal situations as well. However, with friends, you can use other kinds of greeting as well. Let’s take a look at them.
The most common way of saying “Hello” in Romanian is
Salut!
(slow) Sa-lut!
Salut!
Use this word with your friends and with young people.
Another common way to say “Hello” is
Bună.
You already know the meaning of this word.
(slow) Bu-nă.
Bună.
This is the short version of Bună ziua.
Now I will introduce you to two informal ways of greeting each other that are very common in Transylvania.
The first one is Ciao, meaning “Hi”, pronounced almost like in Italian.
(slow) Cia-o!
Ciao!
And the second one is the Latin word Servus which is literally translated in English as “servant”, but is equivalent to the English expression “Hi”.
Let’s hear it one more time.
(slow) Ser-vus!
Servus!
Both Ciao! and Servus! are parting greetings as well.
