Michael: And welcome to Culture Class: Essential Romanian Vocabulary, Season 1, Lesson 25! In this lesson, you'll learn five essential words and phrases related to health and emergencies. Michael: Because of the extreme weather during the fall, at least once per year, the Romanian Armed Forces will evacuate hundreds of people affected by floods. Flooding can also affect agricultural production of certain crops, causing Romanian farmers to lose income.

Michael: The strongest earthquake recorded in Romania was in 1804 with a 7.9 magnitude. Despite the severe destruction, only a few people were hurt. Small earthquakes happen frequently, sometimes without people even noticing them. However, scientists predict another large earthquake will occur in the next twenty years.
