Maryssa: On November 30, all Romanians celebrate this special day: Saint Andrew's Day - the first apostle of Jesus, who is protecting the country. He is considered the most important saint in the Romanian Orthodox Calendar. There are many legends connected with this special day, but the most interesting one says that on this night, wolves talk to each other and ghosts begin to haunt people. The only one who could save villagers from those evil things was Saint Andrew. |

Maryssa: For Romanians, Christmas Day is maybe, along with Easter, the most important holiday and it's considered a "family holiday." It is a Christian holiday that celebrates the birth of Jesus. Around this time of the year, people who are studying or working abroad or in different cities come back home to visit their parents, so all the airports, trains, bus stations, and taxis are very crowded and a reservation is needed for almost everything. In Romania, more than 95% of the population is Christian and it is considered one of the most religious countries in Europe. |

Most Romanians have a mini-break during this period and will enjoy those free days with a huge barbeque with family and friends or with a trip to the seaside. The most popular destinations for those trips are Vama Veche — a bohemian resort with cheap prices — or Mamaia — an expensive resort, very well known for the fancy nightclubs and all-night-long parties. |
